Kurgan CHP-2 is recognized as the best infrastructure project in the energy sector

The Kurgan CHP-2 project has been recognized as the best infrastructure project in the energy sector, coming under the notion of “District heating facilities”, within the framework of the “ROSINFRA” National Award procedure for infrastructure-related projects.

The “ROSINFRA” national award procedure for infrastructure-related projects was held in Moscow during the Russian Week of Public-Private Partnership. The award procedure was sponsored by the Center for Public-Private Partnership Development and the RF Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The award panel included representatives of major international and Russian financial institutions, private companies, public corporations, federal and regional authorities.

The construction of Kurgan CHP-2 has become one of the first successful examples of public-private partnership in the energy sector. In 2009 the project received state financial support in the amount of 1 328,5 million rubles (991,6 million rubles from the RF investment fund and 336,9 million rubles from the Kurgan region budget). The budget funds were spent on the heat distribution scheme, which was transferred into the ownership of the Kurgan region upon construction completion.

The formal ceremony of CHP-2 commissioning was held of March 4, 2014. The power plant was built by “Intertechelectro” Group of companies. The plant electric output is 225 MW; the heat output is 250 Gcal/h. Commissioning of Kurgan CHP-2 has provided for a 40% reduction of the existing power shortage, ensured a reliable power and heat service to consumers of the Kurgan region, created a capacity reserve for further development of Kurgan.
