08 November 2011

In the Kurgan Region Administration office, in the presence of Governor Oleg Bogomolov a contract for supply of complete gas-reciprocating equipment for the Kurgan mini-HPP was signed between “Intertechelectro” Group of companies and “Wartsila”, a Finnish company.

The plant design involves the installation of three 8MW gas-reciprocating engines with heat recovery hot-water boilers and three gas-fired hot-water boilers. The power plant installed electric capacity will total 25MW, its thermal output will equal 40Gcal/h. The new HPP will be the third power generating facility in the Kurgan region, following operational HPP-1 and HPP-2б that is currently under construction. The intended modular delivery of the main equipment will allow to substantially cut down on the installation time. This equipment will afford high reliability, safety and a long service life. According to General Director of CJSC “Itrtechelectro” Vladimir Babyak, the regional administration creates favorable conditions for efficient implementation of power projects, and Wartsila is one of the leading global manufacturers of gas-reciprocating engines, which will assure the HPP high efficiency and observance of the most stringent environmental requirements. He believes that construction of an HPP on the premises of a decommissioned boiler house of the Kurgan Wheeled Tractor Plant will provide for higher reliability of heat power supply to the western part of Kurgan, abatement of the electric power shortage, improvement of the district heating hydraulic control.

The HPP construction is carried out under Target Program “Modernization of the district heating system in the Kurgan region over 2010-2015”. The program involves modernization of 700 boiler houses. According to Oleg Bogomolov, Governor of the Kurgan region, construction of the mini-HPP will be the starting point of “an important long-term project that will allow for comprehensive modernization of the Kurgan region district heating system, based on advanced technologies and state-of-the-art equipment. The expected annual economic benefit from the program implementation will total 850 million rubles”. “We are glad to continue our cooperation with “Intertechelectro”, stated Bogomolov, “and implement this joint project with a new partner: Wartsila, a well-established Finnish company.

Alf Doktar, Regional Director of Wartsila Finland Oy, who signed the Contract on behalf of the Finnish Company, noted that the Company was actively involved in various projects in Russian, but had never before supplied equipment to the Trans-Urals area. “We intend to supply to Kurgan highly reliable, safe equipment with a long service life,” pointed out Mr Doktar and expressed hope for long term cooperation. “We are grateful to “Intertechelectro” and the project parties for offering us a chance to demonstrate here our capabilities and technologies,” concluded Mr Doktar. The mini-HPP construction work will begin in the first quarter of 2012 and the overall estimated construction time will total 2 years.
