Improvement of the Razdan CHPP power unit #5 involves modernization of the 300 MW steam power module into a CCGT power unit with burnt gases exhaust from the Alstom 160 MW gas turbine to the 300 MW block steam boiler as well as installation of an up-to-date gas turbine and other power equipment having high technical-and-economic indices. The project involves simultaneous usage of steam turbine and gas turbine technologies what makes it unique and has nothing of the kind in the CIS countries. As a result, the power unit capacity will reach 431 MW. Razdan CHPP power unit #5 putting in operation will allow the station playing a significant role on the Armenian power generation market and increasing electric energy supplies to adjacent countries.
